Magazine Advert First draft

Using our research we knew that for the magazine adver t to look effective and to be consistent with the current market conventions, however at the same give another impression. Our main inspiration came from the magazine advert found in Assemble magazine. Below is the advert by Meek Mill, his album title 'Dreams and Nightmares'. The artist is displayed in the middle of the picture, this makes the audience automatically recognise with the artist and thinking about his music that is already or newly out. We thought that this style of picture, as this is commonly seen throughout the music industry, to be the most effective way of promoting our artist in a magazine. The facial expression is also an important factor of both adverts. Below Meek Mill is serious and straight-faced, with his eyes and lips having no movement or definition. This shows to the audience that he has a very serious and confident outlook, or he is trying to portray his simple complex look. We wanted to completely copy this look, it is also seen throughtout the music industry, it works and we didnt want to go against this. The artist below explains the title of his song through the picture, of the left hand side over his shoulder represents the 'Dreams' aspect. The colour blue represents calm, goodness and power hence why it runs into the other side. This other side represents the 'Nightmares' illustrated by the red colour signifying danger, evil. In our magazine advert we wanted to stay consistent with some aspects of this advert, however we decided to represent the'Started from the bottom', The background is power, fountains suggest wealth power and status, attributes we wanted the artist to personify. Also it is located in Marble Arch in Central London, these are famous and have been viewed by countless tourists and Londers, this creates an interpersonal relationship with some of the audience, again trying to appeal to as many people as possible. The font although different sizes and shades of colour is the same as the album font, this makes it easy for the audience to recognise where and what the album will look like. By Using 'OUT NOW!' we wanted to almost pressure the audience to purchase the album or at least find out more about it. By having a quote from The Source, it adds a realism to the advert, a valued creditation. Also with the twitter and facebook pages and links on the advert, it means that the audience can automatically access his web pages which have merchandise, tour dates and interpersonal fan infromation, this opens another market to the audience they didnt know about.

Drake Advertisement Analysis

Firstly I am going to look at the facial expressions. The facial expressions of drake in this magazine can come across to be very serious and straight-faced, with his eyes and lips having no movement or definition. This shows to the audience that he has a very serious and confident outlook, or he is trying to portray his simple complex look. With drake looking like this the audience can see drake in many ways and he can be portrayed in more than one emotion or expression. With the serious look on his face it, it could be to show how determined drake is for success, or it can show to the audience how diverse and sophisticated drake is. Overall the facial expressions in this magazine advertisement are crucial in determining whether the magazine cover will be affective and successful when released.

Another subject of the poster I am going to analyse is the character type. The characters type can be summed up in one sentence. He is a sophisticated man who can be seen to have a serious attitude, with a certain persona distinguishing his image and identity. Also he can be seen to support the text of the advertisement, as it looks like drakes image is ‘Complex’ and adds that certain sophistication to his image. Drake can be seen to wear clothes that look plain and simple, but the image is sophisticated because of drake is wearing blacked out glasses. You cannot see his eyes, and people say that eyes tell the image. Not seeing the eye’s means you cannot see what he is focusing on or if he is portraying any emotional.
Another aspect of the magazine advertisement, is the way in which the gesture and posture. The man seen is this magazine cover can be seen to standing there in a complex and confident posture. His hands are in his pocket and he is leaning back showing to the viewer that his outlook and image is a relaxed and confident with that added gesture of style. Also the gesture of the man in the advertisement is that he is standing there with broad shoulders and showing that he is proud standing there looking very sophisticated. This is very crucial in making the advertisement a success because it gives a strong image to the viewer that this artist is very confident and stylish.
Props have been used to create effect and images in the advertisement. These small items can create a lot of connotations and give of crucial images to make the magazine cover a success. A prop in the magazine advert is the blacked out glasses. This gives the connotation of the man being stylish and cool. This is effective on the audience because it shows that the man has ambition to become successful and a role model in fashion. In this magazine cover there are not a lot of props, which means that the magazine is successful because of the other aspects of the advert.
The clothing that has been used on the man in the advert has been selected carefully to show different connotations and meanings. The clothing that has been used in this advertisement is very casual with an added sophisticated image. The man is wearing blacked out sunglasses that add that certain sophistication because it shows style and also hides and emotions show through the eyes. The other items of clothing that have been used are the jumper and smart jeans that ‘Drake’ is wearing shows that he has style and can be a fashion role model, also at this time of the year that image looks to be coming in fashion, which shows that drake can keep up to date with changing fashion trends.
The setting that has been used in this magazine has been electronically put together as there isn’t an actual setting. The background is featured to have many bright lights that are delusional and feel as if he is moving through the air at a speed and the lights have become misted. This is very effective to the viewer as it gives the viewer a sense of pace in the magazine and also will show that drake’s pace of music could be fast or pacey. Another aspect of the setting is the ground, which is seen to be a grass image. The grass setting in the magazine cover, could conjure to the audience that he is in the middle in a normal setting and the fast pace of light and society is buzzing around him. This is effective and creates a good point to the audience.
Overall the magazine cover of the artist drake is very successful in promoting and displaying the new album coming out. This has been successfully advertised.

Magazine Advert Analysis

Magazine Advertisement Analysis

Above are two Make up Advertisements in Closer and Heat, Both of these adverts have some running conventions through them. Both of the adverts have an image of a woman wearing the make up being advertised, this is done suggests how beautiful a woman could become with the makeup. There is also an image of the make-up; this is so that in the shops customers can identify the make up out of all of the rest, because it is so good/iconic. Also the text used relates to the makeups selling point, for example top left presents phrases like ‘red that lasts’, this illustrates the USP of the product its durability. When I asked Five female colleague about the effectiveness of these adverts, they all replied saying the same thing, they liked how there was an image of the female with the make up on, also an image of the make-up, They thought that it was ideal because they could identify the make-up easier, this makes them less stressed and shortens the time when looking for the make up in the long isles.

Although Make-up is targeted predominately to females, we feel as though we will be able to incorporate some of the ideas into our Digipak for marketing, by using phrases and text that relates to what we are marketing, for like ‘Take Care’ is the album, with ‘Crew Love’, therefore I think that love and friendship should be featured, but alongside with running with our conventions of the rap video. Also the key element is that we are going to picture Anoop ‘Drake’ in the centre of the advert. The artist is the main selling point; this is what the customers are buying into so this is the most prominent feature.
